General consent may be obtained during patient registration. Separate informed consent may be obtained before procedures, therapies or treatments involving material risks, special preparation, photography, anaesthesia, invasive intervention or any other situation requiring specific consent.
Before consent is obtained, the patient or authorised representative will be given reasonable information regarding:
• The nature and purpose of the proposed treatment
• Expected benefits and material risks
• Available alternatives
• Likely consequences of refusal
• Approximate duration and follow-up requirements
Consent must be voluntary and may be withdrawn before the relevant procedure, subject to consequences explained by the treating practitioner.
2. Consent for Minors and Incapacitated Patients
Consent for a minor or a person unable to provide valid consent will ordinarily be obtained from a parent, lawful guardian or authorised representative.
In an emergency, necessary care may be provided in accordance with professional judgment and applicable law.
3. Consent for Personal Data
Personal and health information may be collected and processed for consultation, treatment, billing, insurance, recordkeeping, patient safety, communication, legal compliance and accreditation.
